I found that Twitter, aka X, is full of smart people.
At least where I hung out.
Re-learning to write, I studied content creators who were good at engaging their readers while helping them get ahead. And nearly all of them agreed on a fundamental principle:
You must set up a system if a great result requires steady improvement over time.
Motivation and inspiration fade. Fatigue and boredom set in. Progress only happens when people show up, rain or shine, and that means a system — a durable habit.
This was particularly clear when the subject was money. Ignoring the hucksters trying to sell get-rich-quick schemes, the smartest voices promoted the same program:
- DECIDE to take action different from what you did before
- SCHEDULE essential activities/investments
- STICK TO THE SCHEDULE like your life depends on it
It’s the same with health—enjoying a life free from disease and disability—and fitness—achieving a performance standard in an activity of choice. Deciding to feel better, avoid misery, and kick a$$ is the easy part.
It’s sticking to the schedule that’s hard
Busy people suck at sticking to a proven plan with professional dedication.
Consistency is rare; it’s why we find virtuoso musicians and athletes so amazing.
It can be done, which is why there are self-made millionaires and pro athletes.
But consistency over time is so rare that it’s practically a superpower when it occurs naturally. Life coaches, financial advisors, and doctors have jobs for a reason.
Taking action is key
Thoughts occupy very little mass in the universe. They’re mostly electrons.
To realign your immune system, rewire your neurons, or train your muscle memory takes real movement.
Understanding is not enough.
Knowledge that cigarettes, obesity, and ultra-processed foods are no bueno is not enough until you quit them.
A plan to do deadlifts on Monday, squats on Friday, and everything else on Tuesday and Thursday is not enough until you actually lift the weights.
Improvement requires action.
And achieving major improvements requires consistent action over time.
Action Item
Think about a time when you defined an outcome you wanted, mapped out a plan to get it, and executed it over time.
This is the fundamental workflow to getting healthier and fitter over the months to come, at will.
